Video Title – Barack Obama: We Shall Overcome

What does the election of Barack Obama mean in the struggle for equality?

The election of Obama is the last lap in a long race for equality. His election was a momentous occasion that occurred in part because of the past 60 years of civil rights and human rights struggle. 243 years of legal slavery. 100 years of Jim Crow.

The law changed but the culture did not. It is our challenge to knock down the walls. Because we tore down those walls he [Obama] was able to build a bridge. When the walls come down you can then begin to build the bridge to possibilities.
